Vietnam Narrative
After reading the short story "Where Have You Gone Charming Billy?" we were assigned a narrative to write demonstrating the effects of the Vietnam War on those who were still at home. I adopted to perspective of a woman named Laurette Cook who was married to Donald Cook. Both of them were real people, and Donald Cook was taken as a POW early on in the war, and later reported KIA, and awarded the Medal of Honor for helping men escape their prison. This was particularly interesting to write, because I felt I needed to do both Donald and Laurette justice in my writing, and I could not ignore the feelings they must've had at being apart for so long. I received a 93/100 on the essay.
