Antebellum Reformer Speeches
Also in history, we were put into groups and assigned a specific reform movement and historical figure, to which we had to put together a speech and present the class while speaking as that figure. I was assigned Dorothea Dix-proponent for prison reform in America.
The group I was placed in was focusing on Prohibition reforms, but I managed to tie in my ideas on prison reform in the presentation. The group received a 25/25 on the assignment as a whole, and I received a 15/15 on my speech alone. I believe this assignment can be considered a project that "wows" the audience because the speech was not only factual, but emotional, due to the effects of alcoholism on people even today. Additionally, sources had to be analyzed in order to write the speech, which constitutes as piecing together facts and addressing an audience with a specific stance, and we took notes on other performances, evaluating the stances of other groups.
