Long Term Goals
Since I was little, it has always been my dream to be a writer. While I know writing for the New York Times is not necessarily a practical goal, it is a dream of mine. I want to effect people with my words, and I can do that through journalism. My freshman year I took Journalism, and am now a member of the Newspaper class. So far, I have had over 15 stories published either online or in the issue, and have no intention of stopping there. I have been voted "Staffer of the Issue" two issues in a row, and tomorrow, when the December Issue of the Talon is distributed, it will be my story that is featured on the cover. I plan on remaining in Newspaper all the way through my Senior year, and applying to Baylor University in Waco, Texas. I've already received letters from Baylor about admissions information, as well as from schools like Boston University, Stanford and Pepperdine. What I'd like to do after college, as I mentioned earlier, is become a writer at a newspaper, somewhere in the world, and then work my way up and hopefully end up at the New York Times. Then, like all the greats, Ernest Hemingway, Mark Twain, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and many more, I plan on furthering my writing by turning to novels. I know this would be an incredible feat to accomplish, but one thing I've found in my identity is that I am a dreamer and a doer, and I am willing to do everything I can do to achieve my dreams.
