Verbal Expression: Education Interview/Story
Writing a news article is arguably much more difficult than writing a essay. The form is different, the style is different, and the result is completely a far cry from the world of research papers. The three steps to writing an news story are research, interview, and then writing the actual copy. I included each of these steps, as shown below, however, the oral aspect of writing a news story relies heavily on verbal expression. Although interviewing three seniors is not something presented to the class, and is not shared in front of a large group of people, it does require good speaking skills, in order to ask questions, and good listening skills, in order to get the information you need for your story. The story I wrote below is about education, and focused on which of the two candidates who were running for president had ideas that prospective college students felt would support them better for the next four years. In the notes, the highlighted words are the quotes that appear in the story below.
